19 STARTUP STORIES Notes from Founders: YEAY Changing the way Gen Z shops 'It's like Snapchat and eBay had a baby' I read an article about how successful TV shopping is for the older demographic when it's produced in a one-hour format like the QVC TV channel. However, those long programs don't translate well into a mobile format. The next morning, I came down to have breakfast with my three kids and they were making Snapchat videos and I thought: 'Maybe that's what shopping could look like.' I wanted to bring TV shopping to mobiles for the younger generation. It's a bit like Snapchat and eBay had a baby. Welcome to the future of shopping. YEAY fuses mobile, video and e-commerce to make entertainment and shopping more immersive. Aimed at teens over the age of 14, YEAY allows anyone with a mobile phone to become a sales star and promote the things they love for rewards and kudos. Founded by German entrepreneur Melanie Mohr in 2016, YEAY has become one of the fastest growing startups in Berlin, securing $5.8 million in capital seed funding in 2017. Serial entrepreneur Melanie Mohr has ushered in a new era of video e-commerce aimed at Generation Z. One morning over breakfast, Melanie saw her children uploading videos to Snapchat and was reminded of how traditional video shopping channels successfully captured an older generation. With this connecting- the-dots brainwave, Melanie founded YEAY, the video e-commerce experience that is redefining what it means to buy and sell on a mobile device. Melanie Mohr Founder of YEAY
