Health & Safety Stay safe! According to the WEF (World Economic Forum) Poland scores 5.7 points out of 7 in Safety and Security in 2017 – not too bad! Gdansk is certainly a city where you can feel safe, also by night. Nevertheless, it's always good to be aware of your surroundings, especially in a new environment. Gdansk is a very old city with lots of alleys and laneways, so if you're sight-seeing at night alone and you're not familiar with the city yet, try and stick to well-lit areas. Be aware that Gdansk is a touristic city with more and more ship cruise visitors every year. Areas like the old-town or the harbour can get busy, so make sure to keep an eye on your wallet and belongings. One of the things you certainly do not even have to think about: Poland has no risk of natural disasters like earthquakes or tornados. Emergency contacts We hope you will not need it, but in case you need help the emergency number in Poland is 112. You can call 112 from fixed and mobile phones to contact any emergency service: an ambulance, the fire brigade or the police.
