Aura is an Enterprise Account Manager based in Barcelona, Iberia. She joined AWS in September, 2017.
HereAtAWS: Tell us about your career journey. What brought you to your current role at AWS?
Aura: I have always been passionate about two things: technology and people. I’m an electronic engineer and after years of working in that field I wanted to develop my people skills, so I took the opportunity to pivot into a more customer-facing role as an Account Manager, back in my home country of Colombia.
I found myself wanting to both up-skill in the Sales field and explore the world, so I came to Barcelona to study a Master’s degree in Marketing and Sales Management. It was a new beginning, I moved to a new city as a student, with no contacts or friends. I loved Barcelona, but after my Master’s I got an internship in Madrid in a Cybersecurity start-up. During my one and a half years there I learnt a lot about the start-up world, and that knowledge opened my mind to even more possibilities. I was already aware of AWS, and it was on my ‘employer’ wish-list, so when I saw a role at AWS, I jumped at the chance! The role I took first was in AWS in Madrid, and after 1.5 years I relocated to Barcelona.
HereAtAWS: Can you explain in simple terms: your role, who your customers are, and how you help them?
Aura: My customers are enterprise corporations in the Travel and Hospitality industry. My main objective is supporting them to be successful by helping them to solve business challenges using AWS. I do this by understanding their needs and finding a solution for them. This means involving all the necessary resources (technology, people, and processes) and orchestrating these resources for the benefit of my customer.
HereAtAWS:How does your work with customers help to make a positive impact on society?
Aura: My work has a direct impact on my customers ability to give their own customers the best experience. Whether that is making the travel experience more accessible for more people or enabling them to create new and unforgettable experiences for their guests and travellers.
HereAtAWS: What’s the most exciting part of your job?
Aura: The most exciting and rewarding part of my job is being able to see the impact of my work in helping customers improve their business.
HereAtAWS: What advice would you give people joining AWS?
Aura: Be ready to embrace change! At AWS, things are fast-paced and dynamic. And, like in life, “change” is the only constant.
HereAtAWS: What three words would you use to describe workdays at AWS?
Aura: Always Day One.
HereAtAWS:What do you love to do outside work?
Aura: I’m passionate about wellbeing and self-awareness. I practice yoga, meditation, and spend a lot of time with my friends. I love dancing and currently I’m into Hip-Hop dancing.
HereAtAWS: Is there anything else you would like to add about your personal journey?
Aura: I like to think that every new challenge is an adventure, either a new job, a new role, a new city, a new place you visit; I always maintain my Day One spirit. My job at AWS has allowed me to meet many talented and diverse people, and that’s a unique and valuable opportunity for personal growth.
