Felix joined AWS in February 2020 as a Sales Strategy Intern based in Zurich, Switzerland.
HereAtAWS: Tell us about your career journey. What brought you to your current role at AWS?
Felix: As part of my Business Innovation Masters at the University of St. Gallen, I took the course "AI Strategy", where the professor had contact with AWS. When the Zurich office first hired working students, AWS approached my professor, from whom I learned of the position.
Initially I started as a 40% Working Student in Zurich, as I am still studying at the same time. The job at AWS and the studies can be combined very well. Because of the compatibility, I accepted the offer at AWS. AWS always took the requirements of the studies into consideration and supported me with flexible working hours. I enjoyed working as a working student so much that I changed my contract prematurely to a 100% intern contract!
HereAtAWS: Can you explain in simple terms: your role, who your customers are, and how you help them?
Felix: In my role as Sales Strategy Intern, I implement new processes and mechanisms to optimise sales activities. More specifically, I act as an interface between different AWS departments to support the sales team. Campaign budget planning and marketing concepts are also part of my daily work, as well as debriefings after successful campaigns. Finally, I make sure that the AWS account managers and our partners can get in touch with their customers to deepen the business relationship.
HereAtAWS: At work, are you involved in any activities outside of your role?
Felix: We are currently planning the first DACH intern day, where all AWS interns from the MUC and ZRH offices will meet virtually. This is intended to strengthen the community of the interns, and we can get to know each other's roles.
HereAtAWS: What’s the most exciting part of your job?
Felix: Working with a lot of different teams and characters every day, and having a long-lasting impact through the setup of new processes.
HereAtAWS: What advice would you give people joining AWS?
Felix: Forget about the limitations and borders! If you have an idea and can find supporting data, you can do everything, even if you’re an intern!
HereAtAWS: What three words would you use to describe workdays at AWS?
Felix: Varied, Deep-Dive, Fast-Paced.
HereAtAWS: What do you love to do outside work?
Felix: I’m still involved in university clubs, e.g. I’m the vice president of the consulting club at my uni. Besides that, I’m an enthusiastic motor biker in my free-time, and a qualified lifeguard with more than three years on-duty experience.
