Meet Leonardo, Field Readiness & Development Manager

Leonardo joined AWS in January 2016 and is a Field Readiness & Development Manager based in Madrid, Spain.

HereatAWS:  Hi Leonardo, tell us about your career journey. What brought you to your current role at AWS?

Leonardo: Over the years I have built my career travelling through Europe, within different account management and business development roles. I started in 2016 in Luxembourg as a Whitespace Account Manager for the Italian Market; afterwards I was assigned to a Territory Manager role and moved to Madrid. In 2016 I finally achieved the long term goal I had been working so hard towards: joining AWS.

HereatAWS: Can you explain in simple terms: your role, who your customers are, and how you help them?

Leonardo: As a Field Readiness and Development Manager in the EMEA Inside Sales Organisation, I am responsible for crafting on-boarding plans and employee development programs that align with AWS customers’ adoption. I work with different stakeholders in sales, training, human resources, recruiting and operations to develop innovative enablement methods for the next generation of AWS talent. Part of the goal is to create processes that help measure impacts and improvements on customer satisfaction, performance and retention.

I have always thought that the core values of team work, internal development and learning are fundamental for every organisation. I’m thankful to be able to contribute to these values as the Field Readiness and Development Manager for the EMEA Inside Sales Organisation.

HereatAWS: What skills, practical, technical or soft, do you need to succeed in your role or at AWS?

Leonardo: When I was an Account Manager, I had the opportunity to successfully complete my Solutions Architect certification, this helped me get on a technical training path to become a certified AWS Associate Solution Architect. This was a huge opportunity for someone like me who didn’t have a technical background, and that has been one of my proudest achievements to date.

In my current role, it’s still day 1! On a daily basis I am refining skills like coaching and mentoring, I have also been training my analytical and reporting abilities so I can continuously improve on identifying what areas the Inside Sales Representatives may need to focus on to guarantee customer satisfaction.

HereatAWS: Do you see your work with customers helping to make a positive impact on society?

Leonardo: As a Territory Manager, it was incredible to see how strong and vivid an impact my daily activities had on the market, on businesses and on real people. To me it feels that there is an aura of excitement around AWS, for all the potential this new technology is making available to everybody. It’s very rewarding talking to new companies who are finally able to put their business ideas into action. As a Field Enablement Manager, I can give back to the business, helping to create a learning path for all our new teams that help our customers achieve success.

HereatAWS: At work, are you involved in any activities outside of your role?

Leonardo: Recruitment is one of the most fundamental parts of a business, and the way we approach it is very peculiar. I have been fortunate to have been involved in recruitment activities, which I find really rewarding on a personal level. It gives you a strong sense of responsibility for the company and especially for the candidates, who deserve a first class customer experience too.

HereatAWS: What’s the most exciting part of your job?

Leonardo: Building! It is very exciting to work on projects where you have the chance to have an impact on the development of talent at AWS.

HereatAWS: What’s the most challenging part of your job?

Leonardo:  The challenge in my role is being able to create a learning path that can be tailored to everybody’s needs, to ensure we’re successfully developing talent inside the company, but it's a challenge I love and I what drives me every day!

HereatAWS: What advice would you give people who are thinking of, or are, joining AWS?

Leonardo: Learn, learn and learn! This is a company that gives you so much expertise. Also, it goes without saying that to give to your customers the best experience possible, you need to be hungry for knowledge.
