Meet Mary, Start-up Account Manager

Mary is a Start-up Account Manager and is based in Munich, Germany.

HereAtAWS: Tell us about your career journey. What brought you to your current role at AWS?

Mary: Before working for the Start-up team at AWS I started working for Amazon Retail as Retail Vendor Recruiter in consumables. While working for my previous employer in India I met a friend who worked for Amazon and they invited me to see the office for an official event. I was so fascinated by the company spirit and the Leadership Principles that I decided to apply for Amazon when I returned to Germany. One year later I became part of Amazon Retail. After getting a better understanding around the Amazon culture, and processes, I wanted to pick up a new challenge due to the fact that I was always interested in technology trends (AI/ML) and start-ups. I had already gained a major in Business computing during university, so it seemed like a natural progression. After talking to my manager and different members of the Startup-Team I decided to apply, and I’m so glad I did.

HereAtAWS: Can you explain in simple terms: your role, who your customers are, and how you help them?

Mary: I help Start-ups to grow their business with AWS services and features.

HereAtAWS: What skills do you need to succeed in your role?

Mary: Helping Start-ups to grow and share their innovations with Enterprises.

HereAtAWS: What’s the most exciting part of your job?

Mary: My customers are the most exciting part of my job. It never ceases to amaze me how smart and inspirational, yet unique, start-up founders can be!

HereAtAWS: What advice would you give people joining AWS?

Mary: Try not to get distracted by all the opportunities available to you. It happens! One of the biggest challenges is staying focused when there is so much cool stuff going on around you.
