Witold is a Senior AppDev Consultant based in Warsaw, Poland. He joined AWS in September, 2019.
HereAtAWS: Tell us about your career journey. What brought you to your current role at AWS?
Witold: I was continuing my journey as an Application Architect, as previously I was in the same role for 13 years at a Loan Company in Poland. I moved to AWS as I realised how much it has enabled me and my organization to develop new feature. The second reason was that as a company AWS would provide me the opportunity to take part in programs and projects which are beneficial to society. This is something that has always been important to me and that I was missing that in my previous roles.
HereAtAWS: Can you explain in simple terms: your role, who your customers are, and how you help them?
Witold: My main responsibilities are to design new applications in the cloud and migrate existing ones, and to help customers on their migration journeys.
HereAtAWS: What technical and/or soft skills do you need to succeed in your role?
Witold: For my role, from a technical perspective, design and programming pattern expertise is required. When it comes to soft skills, I would say being able to present solutions in understandable ways to different stakeholders, both internally and externally, is key.
HereAtAWS: What’s the most exciting part of your job?
Witold: I find mentoring others very rewarding (customers and colleagues alike), to coach them to become AWS cloud specialists.
I am starting this, however to bring and execute ideas on how AWS services could be extended I am helping to host what we call JAMs, which are virtual events where people can get hands on with real life case studies and challenges. Taking part in JAM’s I believe that they enable people to start working with AWS and maybe they will come with some awesome projects in their company, hobby or as start-up. I believe that.
HereAtAWS: What were you excited to see AWS working on when you first got here?
Witold: To learn how things are done ‘AWS-style’, and to meet new people from around the world.
HereAtAWS: What products or solutions have you worked on? What have been your favourites and why?
Witold: IoT, Serverless, Cognito. My favourite is the Serverless part as it covers such a wide range of services. Why it my favourite? It allows me to test and check many ideas and not worry about infrastructure management part.
HereAtAWS: What three words would you use to describe workdays at AWS?
Witold: Challenging, fun and future!
