Yossi joined AWS in 2019 as a Senior Technical Account Manager based in Tel Aviv, Israel.
HereAtAWS: Tell us about your career journey. What brought you to your current role at AWS?
Yossi: I have been working for more than 20 years in managing, developing and supporting infrastructure components for a variety of projects and products. I was looking for a role that would allow me to interact more with customers and drive innovation, while allowing me to grow and evolve technically.
HereAtAWS: Can you explain in simple terms: your role, who your customers are, and how you help them?
Yossi: I see my role as being the go-to person for the customer. This can be when the customer needs assistance in evolving their services, when they may be facing technical challenges, or even if they are not sure what they do next and need someone to consult with.
HereAtAWS: What technical and/or soft skills do you need to succeed in your role?
Yossi: A Technical Account Manager (or TAM as call ourselves!) should have strong technical background, to be able to understand the customer challenges and build a plan to support them. TAMs interact with large amount of people and need to have the skill set to drive a conversation or a process to the required outcome.
HereAtAWS: Have you had to learn any specific new skills (technical or soft) for your role?
Yossi: Yes, AWS have large amounts of services. To support our customers, we continuously learn new services and features. AWS offer a plethora of opportunities to learn and evolve.
HereAtAWS: What’s the most exciting part of your job?
Yossi: Having the freedom to choose how to best work with and support my customers.
HereAtAWS: What’s the most challenging part of your job?
Yossi: AWS evolve in tremendous pace, it’s exciting, but challenging, as one attempt to keep on top of all the new and interesting technologies
HereAtAWS: What advice would you give people joining AWS?
Yossi: Read the Amazon Leadership Principles, they are key to understanding what drives AWS. Pick the three you like most and embrace them as you start your role.
HereAtAWS: What do you love to do outside work?
Yossi: I enjoy hiking, on a yearly bases I pick-up a cicerone hiking guide to one of many great locations, I choose a location that have multiple options and hike for 10 days. Having lunch on top of a different mountain every day is a fantastic experience.
